Apple Intelligence is built into iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. It uses Apple’s hardware to understand and create both language and images, perform tasks across apps, and make everyday tasks easier and faster. With Private Cloud Compute, Apple offers a new level of privacy for AI, allowing processing to happen both on your device and on secure Apple servers.

To keep things simple, we’ve divided the news into three main sections:

1. Active AI Features

Apple Intelligence now uses smart AI to make text processing, image creation, and Siri even better by adding a personal touch.

A. Text Processing

Apple has introduced AI tools to help with text across the entire system. These tools include:

• Improved spelling with better accuracy.
• Options to rewrite text in a friendly, professional, or efficient tone.
• Summarizing long text into bullet points, lists, or spreadsheets.
• Providing a description of any changes made to the text.

B. Image Generation

Apple Intelligence also brings new image creation features to iPhone, iPad, and Mac. You can create images from text, keywords, or simple sketches in three styles: Animation, Illustration, and Sketch. This makes it easy to swap a rough sketch with a generated image in your notes or create custom images for emails.
Fun fact: You can search your photo library using natural language, like “Jonas with stickers on his face.”

C. Siri

Siri gets a big upgrade with Apple Intelligence, making it more in tune with your digital life. Siri now understands language better, can respond more naturally to questions, and helps you quickly—even if you misspeak. It also remembers the context of your previous requests, making conversations smoother.

D. Background Activities

Apple Intelligence improves background tasks, like sorting and prioritizing notifications on the lock screen, so you have fewer interruptions. Important emails are prioritized, and newsletters or updates are grouped together. Message threads and conversations can also be automatically summarized on the lock screen.

2. Privacy

Apple is setting a new standard for privacy in artificial intelligence with Apple Intelligence. Most AI features run directly on your device, meaning they work even without connecting to the internet. For more advanced tasks, Apple uses Private Cloud Compute, which combines the security of local processing with extra power from the cloud. Data handled by cloud servers with Apple Silicon is never stored or exposed, and independent experts carefully review these data centers before they’re used. This is crucial for ensuring that AI use remains safe and secure.

3. Partners

Apple has integrated ChatGPT into the iPhone, iPad, and Mac systems, so you can use ChatGPT without switching apps. Now, Siri can tap into ChatGPT’s expertise when needed, but only with your permission. For example, if you ask Siri to plan a five-course meal, it will ask if you want ChatGPT’s help. If you say yes, you’ll get a quick answer (though it won’t automatically make you a better cook 🍳). ChatGPT is also being added to Apple’s writing tools, with all queries anonymized and not stored.

Apple also announced plans to bring in more partners to expand Siri’s “search base,” making it easier to access a wide range of expertise.

What Should You Think About Now?

As we mentioned, this feature is planned to launch in the fall, starting with American English. We don’t have much information yet about when it will be available in Norwegian, but we’ll make sure to update all our customers as soon as we know more.

One important thing to remember is that these AI features are only announced for the iPhone 15 Pro. So, if you’re in charge of buying phones and want to make sure you get this functionality, we recommend going with the iPhone 15 Pro (or waiting for new models expected to come out in the fall). For iPads and Macs, any device with an M-chip will be supported.
